Worship Sermon Series (part one)

Working Toward Worthwhile Worship
Part One

Isaiah 6: 1-8 NIV
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”

And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. So I said:

“Woe is me, for I am undone!
Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King,
The Lord of hosts.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth with it, and said:

“Behold, this has touched your lips;
Your iniquity is taken away,
And your sin purged.”

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying:

“Whom shall I send,
And who will go for Us?”

Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”

The text does 2 things:

1. It gives us a beautiful example of the worship experience.

2. It helps us understand the process of worship.

Note these things from our text:

1. The process of worship.

Isaiah saw the Lord in his time of need.
All significant worship begins when we see the Lord.

2. The realization of His holiness.

In God's presence we see ourselves as we really are.

3. The recognition of our sinfulness.

Isaiah, in the presence of God, cried: "Woe is me! I am a sinner."
In His presence we realize our need for forgiveness and change.

4. The renewal of our perspective.

Worship lifts us up.
Worship changes our perspective.
Worship lifts us above our challenges and circumstances when we see Him for who He really is.

If we truly want to change… if we are sincere about following Christ and living for God, then we must:

1. Spend daily time with God.

2. Take time to sing to Him and about Him.

3. Be open and authentic with God.

4. Walk in obedience with Him.

The Lord's Prayer (Hymn)

Lowell Mason

Chorus 1

Our Father who art in heav’n
Hallowed be Thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heav’n
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our debts
As we forgive our debtors
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
For Thine is the kingdom
And the power and the glory
Forever and ever
Amen
