Vision Day 2017

Hebrews 12:1-3 (MSG)

Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!

1. Happy New Year

- It’s exciting – we all kind of feel that we get a do-over, a fresh start.
- We’re going to read the Bible more, pray more, attend church more, give more.
- We’re going to lose weight, get in shape, become a “new me.”
- We’ve got a new President. He’s promising to make America Great Again.
- Yes, it’s a new day – right?

2. I want to talk to you about us today – you, me and this church’s mission and vision.

- We are on a journey together, a journey with Jesus
- The witnesses in heaven are cheering us on. We are determined and committed to finish well.
- We just read the keys are enduring and staying focused. I told you last Sunday: run, lose weight, keep your eyes on Jesus.

3. As a church we are sold out to:

- Training our children
- Restoring our families
- Impacting our community and world

We are living this out in far too many ways for me to mention today.

But this journey together is so important and should be exhilarating. I like to think of it in terms of when I was a child and our family trips.

- We didn’t travel often
- A few trips to the “beach.”

- Those trips went like this:

1. How much further is it?

For us: I'm not sure how much longer we will be here. Jesus is coming. A sure sign is Israel in the forefront and front page again

A. Where are we headed? Where are we as a church? What is it we want?

1. Win your family to Jesus.

- 614 salvations in 2016

2. Baptize at least 110

- 107 baptisms in 2016

3. Have you join us in this journey

- 103 new members in 2016
- 150 new members in 2017

4. Walk everyone through Growth Track

- 4 weeks of learning why we are here, who we are, how to get connected.
- Every Wednesday night Growth Track is going on. All you have to do is show up. We'll get you going.

5. Grow Royal Oak and Afresh

- Considering 2 services at Royal Oak
- Afresh launches next Sunday at our Care Center on 213 South Braddock St.

B. How long is this journey? How much further is it?

- We won’t/can’t stop until all our loved ones know Jesus.
- We won’t/can’t stop until we’ve done everything we possibly can to share the Gospel.
- We can't stop. We must regroup - refresh - take a deep breath and determine that we will finish well.

Not only did our trips pretty much start with how much farther? But also included:

2. I’m hungry!

A. We will challenge each other to never be satisfied with the status quo and church as usual.

B. We will feed the hunger.

- I want for you and for myself to grow spiritually this year on this journey with Jesus.
- I'm committed to preaching the Word - the truth

3. I gotta go to the bathroom.

A. How do I deal with this one?

- Bathroom visits are normal if all is functioning well.

B. So on this journey, how do we keep functioning well?

1. Develop ways for you to invite your family and friends.
2. Get connected and involved.
3. Simple and spiritual

- God’s whisper - Let's commit to hearing the voice of God this year.
- This is the year of increase for you. This is the year that you and I will see the favor of God.
- This year - No limits - no boundaries

"Dream Big! And as you dream, so shall you become. Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day unveil." - Carl Richardson

Here is my dream, church:

1) Children's Center that is state-of-the-art with hundreds of kids coming

2) Student's Center that is state-of-the-art with hundreds of students hanging out here during the week and services for them that sets them up for success in Christ.

- Our kids deserve a chance to be successful disciples. In a culture that is post-Christian and anti-church, we must equip them to love and follow Jesus.

3) A larger foyer where you can slow down and hang-out. When we do coffee, etc., I love the laughter and the chatter and fun you have outside my office. I want that every time we gather.

Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me
You've never failed and You won't start now

The Lord's Prayer

- Lowell Mason

Our Father who art in heav’n
Hallowed be Thy name
Thy kingdom come Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heav’n

Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our debts
As we forgive our debtors

And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil

For Thine is the kingdom
And the power and the glory
Forever and ever
