Just Do the Next Right Thing (Part Three)

Part Three

Philippians 2:13 (NLT)
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

I’ve talked quite a bit about the desire and habits!

So how does God empower us to do what pleases Him?

1. The Infilling of the Holy Spirit.

A. Acts 1:8 KJV
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

B. Ephesians 5:18-20 NLT
Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, 19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. 20 And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

C. How does this happen?
At Salvation, God imparts His Spirit.

Romans 8:9-11 NLT
But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.) 10 And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. 11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

We are born again by the forgiveness of sins and the impartation of His Manifest Presence by the Holy Spirit.

And then, we need to ask God, seek God, pray to be fully yielded to the Holy Spirit – fully immersed in the Holy Spirit, baptized in the Holy Spirit. That is simply a complete and total giving up of myself and giving over the Presence and Indwelling Power of the Holy Spirit. This is what the Bible means when it talks of walking in the Spirit.

Let’s walk through slowly this pericopé of Scripture in:

Galatians 5:16-26 NLT
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. 17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. 18 But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses. 19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. 22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. 25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. 26 Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.

How does God empower us to do what pleases Him?

By giving us the Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit directs our lives and gives dynamite portion power to effectively live for Him.

Seek to be filled.

Flawless

· Barry Graul | Bart Millard | Ben Glover | David Garcia | Mike Scheuchzer | Nathan Cochran | Robby Shaffer | Solomon Olds

Verse 1

There's got to be more than going back and forth
From doing right to doing wrong, 'cause we were taught that's who we are
Well come on get in line right behind me, You along with ev'rybody
Thinking there's worth in what you do
Then like a hero who takes the stage
When we're on the edge of our seats saying it's too late
Well let me introduce you to amazing grace

Chorus

No matter the bumps, no matter the bruises
No matter the scars, still the truth is
The cross has made, the cross has made you flawless
No matter the hurt or how deep the wound is
No matter the pain, still the truth is
The cross has made, the cross has made you flawless

Verse 2

Could it possibly be that we simply can't believe
That this unconditional kind of love would be enough to
Take a filthy wretch like this and wrap him up in righteousness
But that's exactly what He did

Bridge 1

Take a breath smile and say right here right now I'm okay
Because the cross was enough

Bridge 2

Then like a hero who takes the stage when we're
On the edge of our seats saying
It's too late, well let me introduce you to
Grace grace, God's grace

Bridge 3

No matter what they say or what you think you are
The day you called His name
He made you flawless He made you flawless

End

No matter the bumps, no matter the bruises
No matter the scars, still the truth is
The cross has made, the cross has made you flawless

Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me

How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed

My chains are gone I've been set free, my God my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns, unending love amazing grace

The Lord has promised good to me, His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, the sun forbear to shine
But God who called me here below will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
You are forever mine

I'll Trust You

Richard Smallwood

You are my refuge; in You I’ll trust.
You are my fortress; in You I’ll trust.

I won’t dread the terror by night, for angels are all around me.
So, I will not fear.

Chorus

When I call You, You’ll answer in time of trouble.
When I call You, You’ll answer; You will deliver.
Woah, woah, I’ll trust You, for I will dwell under Your shadow.
I won’t dread the terror by night, for angels are all around me.
So, I will not fear. (Repeat chorus)

I’ll trust You, for I will dwell under Your shadow.
I’ll trust You, I’ll trust You, I’ll trust You, I’ll trust You!
I’ll trust You! (Repeat several times)

I’ll trust You, for I will dwell under Your shadow.
I won’t dread the terror by night, for angels are all around me.
So, I will not fear.

Lord, I will trust. (Repeat twice)

Oh, Lord, in You I put my trust!

Death Was Arrested

- Brandon Coker, Adam Kersh, Paul Taylor Smith, and Heath Balltzglier
Arr. by Dan Galbraith

Verse 1

Alone in my sorrow, and dead in my sin
Lost without hope, with no place to begin
Your love made a way to let mercy come in
When death was arrested, and my life began

Verse 2

Ash was redeemed, only beauty remains
My orphan heart was given a name
My mourning grew quiet, my feet rose to dance
When death was arrested, and my life began

Chorus 1

Oh your grace so free, washes over me
You have made me new, now life begins with You

Verse 3

Released from my chains, I'm a prisoner no more
My shame was a ransom, He faithfully bore
He cancelled my debt, and He called me his friend
When death was arrested, and my life began

Chorus 2

Oh your grace so free, washes over me
You have made me new, now life begins with You
It's your endless love, pouring down on us
You have made us new, now life begins with you

Verse 4

Our Savior displayed on a criminal's cross
Darkness rejoiced, as though heaven had lost
But then Jesus arose, with our freedom in hand
That's when death was arrested, and my life began
That's when death was arrested, and my life began

Bridge

Oh, we free, free, forever we're free
Come join the song of all the redeemed
Yes, we're free, free, forever amen
When death was arrested and my life began
