In Times Like These, You Can Live This

Jude 24-25 NLT

Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault. 25 All glory to him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen.

Jude is a brother to Jesus and to James. He was compelled by the Holy Spirit to write this 25-verse letter to Jewish Christians and all believers everywhere for all times. The reason? To remind the Church of the need for constant diligence – to stay strong in the faith and to oppose the heresy of the day.  He speaks of the last days being filled with immorality, unruly rulers and followers – lawlessness, rebellion and greed, followed by followers of Christ even taking God’s Word lightly and making a joke and religion of their own desires and lusts. Jude said these are the folks who split churches and think only of themselves. But after laying out his case and defining reality, he says this. He speaks some of the most encouraging words and inspiring words in all of the Bible – even in all of literature.

Listen to those words again from The Message:
Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault. 25 All glory to him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen.

Here’s the message I have for you today.
First, the dynamic hasn’t changed since that first century. Immorality abounds. Rebellion. Bigotry. Hatred. Lawlessness. Greed. And sadly and tragically, in many incidences the Church has become a joke and Christianity a religion – not an experience with God.

However, in spite of the headlines of doom and gloom and despair, there still is One – Jesus Christ – who can keep you on your feet and from falling – He can keep you standing tall in His bright Presence; keep you fresh – without fault – filled with joy and celebration. To whom all glory – all power – all majesty and all authority are His before all time – here in the present and beyond all time! Yes and Amen!

So, in times like that in A.D. 65 and on May 15, 2016 – you can live like this: Confident He’ll keep you from falling.

Ira Stanphill penned the words to that old song we use to sing:
“Many things about tomorrow
I don’t seem to understand;
But I know who holds tomorrow,
And I know He holds my hand.”

Husbands and Wives – the assault is real today to succumb to the pressures of this life.
Temptation to live to oneself instead of each other…
Temptation to ever strive for more that only leaves us with less of what matters…
Temptation to take the easy road when the going gets worse – When the “for better” of the wedding vows turns to the “worse” of those same vows – the world cries – the devil cries – and even friends and family cries – “Give it up. You deserve a better life.”

Know this – some things are worth fighting for! Some things are worth going to the mat over! Some things are worth in the long run to never give up, and your marriage is one of those!

• He promised to keep you from falling. He promised to keep you standing. I promise you that any marriage that is successful and fulfilling isn’t so because of no problems or challenges, but rather because two people determined to make it work.
• And when you give it over to the Lord, quit trying to fix one another – focus on the gift you are to one another – He is able to keep you from falling!

Parents – these are tough times. Ok, but those little crumb crunchers running around who call you Mom and Dad are so very special.
They are gifts from God. They are great big promises of God – promises of hope for the future – promises of a life fulfilled – promises of the love of Jesus continuing, and the grace of God on display.

• No wonder Jesus said: “Bring the little children to me for God’s Kingdom is made up of people like these.” Matt. 19: 13-15.

• Parents, yes the days are evil. We aren’t ignorant to the times. Yes, it’s a scary world out there. Of course, the last days are here. We know that. We admit that. But to hear us talk in our own churches at times, myself included, you’d think it’s hopeless. You’d think, hearing us and watching our often anemic Christian lifestyles, that raising kids today is foolish. Or they are all doomed to a life of failure and defeat.
“Schools are horrible. Teachers are atheists. Government seeking mind control. The devil himself behind every bush just waiting to kill, steal, and destroy your child.” Why, we’re scared to death to even let kids be kids any more. Of course, be careful, reasonable, sensible, and protective. But remember: God’s got your back! He’s holding you up.

• Sure you’ll make some mistakes. Absolutely you’ll do things and say things to your kids you’ll regret. But for heaven’s sake – you’ve got this! You can do this! You can raise healthy – happy – holy kids!
How do I know this? Because the Bible says: He’ll keep you from falling! He’ll keep you standing!

• Listen, Mom and Dad. Get it together. Quit your bickering. Man up and woman up and realize it’s not about you. Cast off selfishness and the self-serving spirit. Fess up. Pray up. Go to counseling. Have the heart-to-heart. Revisit the vows you made. Do what you’ve got to do, because you’ve got destinies in your hands. You’ve got the future to shape. You’ve got God’s most prized possessions to lead and teach to love Him and serve Him and change our world!

• Yes, it’s evil out there! But you and I have several hundred Champions for Jesus we are preparing to go out and take back what the enemy has stolen!

• You’ve got this, Mom and Dad! He is able to keep you upright!

Church, the world has already written our epitaph.
We are insignificant, irrelevant, and just a monument to a God that has long since been forsaken and forgotten.

• Somehow today I hear the Lord saying to His stumbling church – “Remember, upon this rock…”

• God isn’t through yet, my friend. His church is awakening from her sleep! Our best days are not behind us. Our best days are now – today and tomorrow! For he has promised us today to keep us from falling.
The enemy may fight us. The world turn against us. The religious themselves try to stifle us. Ah, but God isn’t finished yet! He’s still saving and delivering and healing and filling His people with the Holy Spirit and power.

• And then after a while, He’s coming back and will take us home with Him and – listen to this – “present us without fault!”

“Without a single fault”, one translation says “innocent of sin and with great joy.”

Yes, in times like these we can become disillusioned and dishonest. But here is how it all ends. Here’s how it all wraps up, “Faultless before the throne.” We will stand with our families – our church – untainted – unscathed – unblemished – by the world because He is “…able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault. 25 All glory to him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen.” (Jude 24-25 NLT)

It Is Well

Horatio Gates Spafford | Kristene DiMarco | Philip Paul Bliss

Verse 1
Grander earth has quaked before,
Moved by the sound of His voice.
And seas that are shaken and stirred
Can be calmed and broken for my regard,

Chorus 1
And through it all, through it all,
My eyes are on You.
And Through it all, through it all,
It is well.
And Through it all, through it all,
My eyes are on You,
And it is well with me.

Verse 2
And Far be it from me to not believe,
Even when my eyes can't see.
And this mountain that's in front of me,
Will be thrown into the midst of the sea.
(Repeat Chorus)

(Bridge)
So, let go, my soul, and trust in Him.
The waves and wind still know His name.
(Repeat Twice)

The waves and wind still know His name.
It is well with my soul. (Repeat Line Twice)

It is well, it is well with my soul.
It is well with my soul. (Repeat Line Twice)
It is well, it is well with my soul. (Repeat Line Twice)
It is well it is well with my soul.
