Go (Part 3)

My Visit with a Saint

Psalm 37:25-26 MSG

“I once was young, now I’m a graybeard— not once have I seen an abandoned believer, or his kids out roaming the streets. Every day he’s out giving and lending, his children making him proud.”

I shared communion this week with a saint.

Ellen Cochran 100 this past June.

Lessons I learned from a centenarian.

A) My age has nothing to do with my passion.

Ms. Ellen told me "Pastor, they tell me I don't have long to live and of course I know that, I am a hundred, you know?"

She lit up...I mean her eyes sparkled and her face came alive as she said, "I ready, I'm so ready. I'm hungry to see Jesus. And I've got so many family members over there. I can't wait to see them. Some of them I hardly even knew, but I'll get to find out all about them."

(1) I wonder how deep...how sincere is our hope in Christ?

We talk about heaven...we talk about the coming of the Lord...but are we really convinced? As we grow older are we growing in anticipation of what is to come?

(2) Living with an eternal influence

Making decisions based on what is to come

Facing our challenges with the eternal dimension...this is temporary...this will pass...in light of eternity...

Making life choices/moral decisions in light of eternity

(3) Real passion takes us beyond ourselves, even when you're a hundred!

Ms. Ellen prayed for me.

She prayed for our church to grow and then she got lost in prayer for our children and our students.

"Lord, revival is coming again and You are bringing it through our children."

To our students and our children... To you student and children staff and leaders...

It's coming. The wave of God's Spirit and revival is coming...And you can be an integral part of that move.

Decide, what do you want with your life?

Get a good education, absolutely. Then get a job and a career and a spouse and a couple of kids and a mini-van. And work to pay for all the stuff and maybe even make a name for yourself. Those are good things, but I beg you, don't let the good keep you from the best! Don't let life take away your passion to live.

Don't let the American Dream rob you of your God-given vision. For the Bible says, "In the last days your young men and women shall see visions..."

What do you want to do with your life?

You want to spend your energy and give your talent to earn a title?

Or don't you want to live a century and sit with your Pastor and have a testimony?

Pharaoh had a title, but Moses had a testimony.

Nebuchadnezzar had a title but Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego had a testimony!

King Darius had a title but Daniel had a testimony!

Herod, he had a title but Jesus, He had a testimony.

For when it comes your time to check out, it's not the titles people will stand around and talk about.

It’s your testimony we will talk about.

BECAUSE IF YOUR PRESENCE DOESN'T MAKE AN IMPACT THEN YOUR ABSENCE WON'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!

B) Authentic faith lasts a century.

Ms. Ellen told me of her many years of God's faithfulness. 100 years of always there and always faithful.

(1) David said, “I once was young, now I’m a graybeard— not once have I seen an abandoned believer, or his kids out roaming the streets. Every day he’s out giving and lending, his children making him proud.”

(2) You can trust Him today and for a hundred years!

Say Amen

- David Blake Neesmith, Jason Cox, Kenna West, and Michael Farren

Verse 1

This life is a journey we walk by faith
And there will always be the mountains in our way
But right here in this moment
May our strength be renewed
As we recall what God has done
And how we've seen Him move

Chorus 1

(And) If there's anybody here who's found Him faithful
Anybody here who knows He's able
Say amen
And if there's anybody here who's seen His power
Anybody here brought through the fire
Say amen
Anybody here found joy in the middle of sorrow
(Peace in the storm hope for tomorrow)
(And seen it time and time again)
Just say amen

Verse 2

Sometimes through the darkness it's hard to see
So just be brave and follow where He leads
'Cause greater is the One who's in us
Than he who's in the world
So child of God remember the battle is the Lord's

Misc 1 (Bridge)

Even in the valley of the shadow
When you feel alone in the unknown
Just say amen just say amen yeah
Oh even when the storms are raging
Stand and know you're not forsaken
Just say amen just say amen

Chorus 2

Is there anybody here
Tell me is there anybody here
Come on and say amen
And if there's anybody here who's seen His power
Anybody here brought through the fire
Come on and say amen
Oh anybody here found joy in the middle of sorrow
Peace in the storm hope for tomorrow
And seen it time and time again
Just say amen just say amen
