Easter 2018

Come To The Table

John 14:1-4 (MSG)
“Don’t let this throw you. You trust God, don’t you? Trust me. There is plenty of room for you in my Father’s home. If that weren’t so, would I have told you that I’m on my way to get a room ready for you? And if I’m on my way to get your room ready, I’ll come back and get you so you can live where I live. And you already know the road I’m taking.”

1. You all know its Easter and you know Easter is when we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. It's an old, old story that never really gets old, to so many of us.

2. Jesus, God Himself, came and lived among us; experienced all of our issues, died, and miraculously came back to live forever. With His death on a cross, crucified - taking our place and paying the penalty for our sins, you and me (any and all of us) have been given an opportunity to know God for ourselves.

3. Before His death and resurrection, He had His last meal with 12 guys.
Now He could have eaten with just about anyone, but He chose His last night to spend with them.

4. Look at them...they were sincere guys wanting to understand God, but they were pretty messed up in so many ways.

  • One of them was a crook and would sell Him out for a few pieces of silver. A couple of them were so proud and power hungry they got into a fight in front of Jesus over where they would sit when they went to heaven.
  • One of them cut a man's ear off with a sword right beside Jesus and then later cursed a woman in His denial of Jesus.
  • And all of them scattered after Jesus died and He went after them.
  • Yes, they were a motley crew. They were a bunch of misfits.  Yet, Jesus chose to spend His last few hours hanging with them and sharing a meal with them and even serving them.

5. Don't miss the message here. It is simply: All Are Welcomed at His Table.

A. Those who don't quite understand all of this, you are welcome.

B. Those who have tried this God thing before and didn't quite make it - you are welcome back.

C. Those who have truly messed up your lives, maybe your marriage or relationship with your kids or friends, you are welcome.

D. I don't know, but maybe you've made some really bad decisions and got yourself in a mess today, listen, there's a place here for you.

E. Or maybe you're like me, a misfit, a member of the real "motley crew" - I'm so glad we are welcome at the table.

F. Maybe you feel like you've gone too far, and your poor choices have brought shame and guilt on your life. Today, the Table is set. Your invitation delivered. You are welcome here.

Here's what happens at the Table:

1. We are all welcome

2. We are all accepted

  • I'm no more important than you and no one here is superior or better than another. We come by His invite and received by His grace.

3. We are received and treated as family.

  • Monday night family dinners:
  • 14 of us, 6 are grandchildren, our daughters and their husbands, 2 crazy kids from the BVI, and Pauline and me.
  • It's crazy. It's loud. It's out of control. It's overwhelming. It's messy. But it's the highlight of our week because we are family.

God's family isn't all that different. It's crazy. It's difficult and different. There's no perfection. A bunch of misfits. It's messy but it's so wonderful to know God and to do life together.

The Lion And The Lamb

- Words and Music by Brenton Brown, Brian Johnson and Leeland Mooring // Arranged by Bradley Knight

Verse

He’s coming on the clouds
Kings and kingdoms will bow down
Every chain will break
As broken hearts declare His praise
For who can stop the Lord Almighty?

Chorus

Our God is the Lion
The Lion of Judah
He’s roaring with power
And fighting our battles
And every knee will bow before Him

Our God is the Lamb
The Lamb that was slain
For the sins of the world
His blood breaks the chains
And every knee will bow before
The Lion and the Lamb
Every knee will bow before Him

Verse

Open up the gates
Make way before the King of kings
The God who comes to save
Is here to set the captives free
For who can stop the Lord Almighty?

Chorus

Our God is the Lion
The Lion of Judah
He’s roaring with power
And fighting our battles
And every knee will bow before Him

Our God is the Lamb
The Lamb that was slain
For the sins of the world
His blood breaks the chains
And every knee will bow before
The Lion and the Lamb
Every knee will bow before Him

Who can stop the Lord?

My Victory

- Crowder (Darren Mulligan, David Crowder, Ed Cash, and Hank Bentley)

Verse 1

You came for criminals
And ev'ry Pharisee
You came for hypocrites
Even one like me
You carried sin and shame
The guilt of ev'ry man
The weight of all I've done
Nailed into Your hands

Chorus 1

Oh Your love bled for me
Oh Your blood in crimson streams
Oh Your death is Hell's defeat
A cross meant to kill is my victory

Verse 2

Oh Your amazing grace
I've seen and tasted it
It's running through my veins
I can't escape its grip
In You my soul is safe
You cover ev'rything

Misc 1 (Bridge)

Behold the Lamb of God
Who takes away our sin
Who takes away our sin
The holy Lamb of God
Makes us alive again
Makes us alive again
(REPEAT)

Misc 2 (Ending)

Oh a cross meant to kill is my victory

Come To The Table

- Ben Glover, Ben McDonald, and Dave Frey

Verse 1

We all start on the outside
The outside looking in
This is where grace begins
We were hungry we were thirsty
With nothing left to give
Oh the shape that we were in

Misc 1 (Pre-Chorus)

Just when all hope seemed lost
Love opened the door for us

Chorus 1

(He said) come to the table
Come join the sinners who have been redeemed
Take your place beside the Savior
Sit down and be set free
(Come to the table)

Verse 2

Come meet this motley crew of misfits
These liars and these thieves
There's no one unwelcome here
So that sin and shame that you've brought with you
You can leave it at the door
And let mercy draw you near

Misc 2 (Bridge)

To the thief and to the doubter
To the hero and the coward
To the pris'ner and the soldier
To the young and to the older
All who hunger all who thirst
All the last and all the first
All the paupers and the princes
All who've failed you've been forgiven
All who dream and all who suffer
All who've loved and lost another
All the chained and all the free
All who follow all who lead
Anyone who's been let down
All the lost you have been found
All who've been labeled right or wrong
To ev'ryone who hears this song

Misc 3 (Ending)

Woah sit down and be set free
Come to the table
Come to the table
Just sit down and rest awhile
Just sit down and rest awhile
Come to the table
