Christmas Stories Part 4

Christmas Eve 2016

Segment One

1. It all started with a man named Adam and woman named Eve.

It was in a beautiful garden of trees and flowers and foliage and chirping birds and gentle animals.

2. It all changed with a choice – a simple choice.

The Lord God – Creator of it all – said, “Have it all. Enjoy. I created everything for you. And it does my heart good to see you laughing and loving and enjoying my gifts.

Just one thing: Don’t eat from that one tree over there. That’s all. That’s the only thing I ask you not to take – just don’t eat from that tree.”

And just like a child being told, “Don’t play around that electrical outlet,” Adam and Eve disobeyed God.

3. And everything changed.

- Their hearts changed.
- Their thoughts changed.
- Their residence changed.
- Their bodies changed.
- And most importantly, their relationship with God changed.
- Man’s spirit died and God cried.

4. But in the presence of all the chaos, God said, “You’ve sinned – you messed up all I had planned for you – however, I promise I’ll help you out of this.”

And from that time on, mankind tried to find God and discover his way back.

He worked, he labored, he toiled, he fought, he sacrificed, he built altars and sculpted his own gods, he tried it all to no avail – but that was all before Christmas.

Segment Two

1. Lost and broken – separated from God, man groped in darkness the night before. And the lonely and broken – the shameful and sinful wondered, “Does God even care?”

- It was as if God said, “But wait…”
- It reminds me of the most creative genius of our time. Not Walt Disney. Not Steve Jobs. Even going back to Thomas Edison – it wasn’t him.

But rather, Ron Popeil, the founder of Ronco, who thought up the Veg-o-Matic, Dial-o-Matic, Dice-o-Matic, Bass-O-Matic, and the amazing hair in a can, as well as a hundred other inventions that have changed our lives. However, his greatest creation isn’t any of these. It’s the tagline that invariably popped up in his late-night infomercials: “But wait! There’s more!”

It didn’t matter how wonderful the last appliance, no matter how tantalizing the last offer, our imaginations ignited with one more promise: “But wait! There’s more!”

- And even though God helped His followers out and providing coverings for their sins and offered blessings for their obedience – on that first Christmas, God said to the broken world, “But wait! There’s more!”

2. God never forgot His Promise – His promise of hope and help.

- It wasn’t in a beautiful Garden this time.
- It wasn’t with bubbling brooks, beautiful trees, breath-taking floral arrangements. It wasn’t even in a temple or cathedral or palace.
- But the night before God prepared a stable with some hay and some rags and a young couple, 9 months pregnant, weary from a long trip on a donkey.
- It was in that moment, that scene, that picture, that God said, “I do care. I bring you good tidings of great joy – a Savior which is Jesus the Lord.”

3. And with that, everything changed. God became one of us to experience our pain, our struggles, our disappointments, our hurts, and our sin.

And He took it all so that you and I could once again walk with Him.

4. The Bible says it this way: He came to live among us – became one of us that we may become like Him.

- And that is what Christmas is all about.

Winter Snow

- Audrey Assad

Verse 1

You could've come like a mighty storm
With all the strength of a hurricane
You could've come like a forest fire
With the power of heaven in Your flame

Chorus 1

But You came like a winter snow
Quiet and soft and slow
Falling from the sky in the night
To the earth below

Verse 2

You could've swept in like a tidal wave
Or in an ocean to ravish our hearts
You could've come through like a roaring flood
To wipe away the things we've scarred

Chorus 2

Oh oh but You came like a winter snow
You were quiet
You were soft and slow
Falling from the sky in the night
To the earth below

Misc 1 (Bridge)

Ooh no Your voice wasn't in a bush burning
No Your voice wasn't in a rushing wind
It was still it was small it was hidden

To the earth below

Mary, Did You Know?

- Mark Lowry and Buddy Greene

Verse 1

Mary did you know
That your baby boy
Would one day walk on water
Mary did you know
That your baby boy
Would save our sons and daughters
Did you know
That your baby boy
Has come to make you new
This Child that you delivered
Will soon deliver you

Verse 2

Mary did you know
That your baby boy
Would give sight to the blind man
Mary did you know
That your baby boy
Would calm a storm with His hand
Did you know
That your baby boy
Has walked where angels trod
And when you kiss your little baby
You've kissed the face of God
Oh Mary did you know

Misc 1 (Interlude)

Ooh Mary did you know ooh ooh

Misc 2 (Bridge)

The blind will see
The deaf will hear
The dead will live again
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of the Lamb

Verse 3

Oh Mary did you know
That your baby boy
Is Lord of all creation
Mary did you know
That your baby boy
Will one day rule the nations
Did you know
That your baby boy
Is heaven's perfect Lamb
And the sleeping Child you're holding
Is the great I Am
Oh Mary oh

How He Loves

- John Mark McMillan

Verse 1

He is jealous for me loves like a hurricane
I am a tree bending beneath
The weight of His wind and mercy
When all of a sudden I am unaware of
These afflictions eclipsed by glory
I realize just how beautiful You are
And how great Your affections are for me

Misc 1 (Pre-Chorus)

Oh how He loves us so
Oh how He loves us
How He loves us so
(REPEAT)

Chorus 1

(Yeah) He loves us
Oh how He loves us
Oh how He loves us
Oh how He loves
(REPEAT)

Verse 2

We are His portion and He is our prize
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes
If grace is an ocean we're all sinking
So Heaven meets earth
Like a sloppy wet (unforeseen) kiss
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest
I don't have time to maintain these regrets
When I think about the way that
