Bible Prophecy 101

Bible Prophecy 101

1. So, what in the world is going to happen next?

  • The Bible has a lot to say about it. Unfortunately, we’ve heard conflicting stories, we’ve been disillusioned with erroneous dates, events – Blood Moons, Y2K, weird weather – and the list goes on as to what is to usher in the 2nd coming of Christ.
  • Today, let’s stick to what we know, not what we speculate.

2. Church Age

  • When Jesus came the first time, He came to live among us. He came to experience our lives. He came to take on our sins. Die in our place. He rose again to give us a future hope.
  • When Israel rejected Him as the Messiah, God gave us Gentiles a chance to know Him. During this gap between His first coming and the rapture – the coming of Jesus in the clouds for His living saints – this time we now live is the Church Age.
  • Romans 11:25 says, “This hardness on the part of Israel toward God is temporary. Its effect is to open things up to all outsiders so that we end up with a full house.”
  • That’s God’s desire right now. He is reaching out to all of us. We all are welcome. God wants His house full.

– Rapture

  • The Church Age will end when the Rapture
    takes place.
  • Rapture – catching away
  • Jesus will come and get His church.
  • I Thessalonians 4:13-18 NLT

"And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died. 15 We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves. 17 Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. 18 So encourage each other with these words."

  • Here’s the good news, there’s no prophecies yet to be fulfilled. There’s no promises of God unkept. Any day now – any moment – Jesus will appear in the clouds with those who have gone before us and we will go to be with Him.
  • I’m sure in these days of upheaval and so much pain and suffering – the thought of going to heaven and starting over in a land of no pain and no sorrow and no war and no abuse and no neglect and no injustice and no death – that thought is comforting and exciting and encouraging.
  • Even so, as John said, “Come, Lord Jesus, and quickly!”

– Tribulation and Armageddon

  • I believe immediately after the rapture, the next 7 years will be one of tribulation.
  • The first 3.5 years will be trying to make sense of why millions are missing. Why and what has happened. The upheaval of the chaos that ensued after the rapture will be unbelievable.
  • In the book of Daniel 9:27, God gives us an outline of what to expect.
  • The leader that will come to the front will be whom the Bible calls the Antichrist.
  • He won’t call himself that. He won’t lead the world with the title, “Antichrist,” but that will be his role. He will be Satan’s pawn.
  • He will make peace with Israel – a 7-year treaty for peace which tells us peace in the Middle East isn’t likely now or even then.
  • This Antichrist will break this treaty and turn against Israel and against the Christians who will be saved during the Tribulation.
  • And then, the side of God none of us like to admit, the holiness of God that demands justice; the bulk of His wrath will be poured out on earth.
  • This is what we read about in Revelation 6:16, The Great Tribulation.
  • As all this is happening, world leaders will turn on this Antichrist and will be lured to one location.
  • Revelation 16:13, 14, and 16 - John names the place, it is the valley of Megiddo, or Armageddon.
  • But listen to this, Revelation 19:11 says, as the world forces battle the Antichrist at Armageddon, “And I (John) saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He Who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.”
  • So when Jesus comes, He will crush His enemies, judge them, and the unbelievers will be confined to hell.
  • Jesus will then begin His kingdom of 1,000 years and an unbelievable celebration known as the Marriage Supper of the Lamb – where all the fattening food will be fattening no longer!

– Second Coming of Christ and the Millennial Reign

  • Revelation 19-20 tells us that Jesus will come to this Earth and set up His kingdom.
  • He will rule with peace and we, His followers, will enjoy Earth as He meant it to be from the beginning.
  • God loves us so much that He’s going to let us enjoy living here as it was meant to be. Can you imagine?
  • Well, really none of us can. A place of endless joy and gladness, how beautiful heaven must be.
  • For 1,000 years we will live – really truly live and our senses fully alive living in harmony and peace. No prejudice – no class warfare – no bitterness – but harmony and love and endless joy!

– Great White Throne Judgement

  • Let me read a passage to you. At the end of this heaven on earth, we read in Revelation 20:11-15 NLT:

"And I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. 12 I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up its dead, and death and the grave[a] gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds. 14 Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death. 15 And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire."

  • It’s difficult to imagine that there are countless millions who won’t make heaven their home. By their own choosing, they reject the invitation from Jesus to come into His forgiveness and life.
  • So, church, this should compel us – drive us with burdened hearts to share Jesus’ love and grace…to take it serious inviting people to church and to know Jesus.

– Eternity Future for Believers

Now contrast what I just read about those who don’t know Jesus with this Scripture for those who do, Revelation 21:1-7 NLT:

"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever. And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children."

Heaven – what a thought and what a hope. All that God does for us each and every day, and then in the end, heaven for all eternity.

And that is Bible Prophecy 101.

Our Father who art in heav’n
Hallowed be Thy name
Thy kingdom come Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heav’n

Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our debts
As we forgive our debtors

And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil

For Thine is the kingdom
And the power and the glory
Forever and ever

I’ll Trust You

- Richard Smallwood

You are my refuge;
in You I’ll trust.
You are my fortress;
in You I’ll trust.

I won’t dread the terror by night,
for angels are all around me.
So, I will not fear.

Chorus

When I call You,
You’ll answer in time of trouble.
When I call You, You’ll answer;
You will deliver.

Woah, woah,
I’ll trust You,
for I will dwell under
Your shadow.

I won’t dread the terror by night,
for angels are all around me.
So, I will not fear.
(Repeat chorus)

I’ll trust You,
for I will dwell under
Your shadow.

I’ll trust You,
 (Repeat several times)

I’ll trust You,
for I will dwell under
Your shadow.

I won’t dread the terror by night,
for angels are all around me.
So, I will not fear.

Lord, I will trust.
(Repeat twice)

Oh, Lord, in You I put my trust!
